70年代初期，中國功夫和Disco舞曲是二種波及歐美主流國家的新熱潮。

中國功夫作為亞洲元素的代表，在西方人眼中具有奇異但讓他們熱血沸騰的特質。當然，這全應歸功於大師李小龍。1971年，李小龍回港拍攝了第一部新派功夫電影《唐山大兄》。這部電影，成了香港電影的救市之作，更開創了一門世界電影史都必須承認的類別，中國（香港）功夫電影。到了李小龍的第三、四部電影《猛龍過江》（1972）和《龍爭虎鬥》（1973）時，因拍攝的外景場地和班底趨於國際化，讓好萊塢等歐美電影發行商注意到李小龍功夫電影的獨特魅力。至此，西方人狂熱的愛上了李小龍這種硬橋硬馬的真功夫電影及片中所體現出懲惡揚善的個人英雄主義，“中國功夫”這一獨特的文化元素也開始被西方人熟識並學習。而李小龍強調的“用中國人的方法做外國人做不到的事”，或許也是其在西方獨占一席，現今更仍是中國影人進入國際影業捷徑的基點。

70—80年代，也是Disco舞曲的鼎盛時期。這種帶有自我解放及反抗意識的新節奏（當時）舞曲，是生活不可或缺的一部分。那時的john travolta還是舞會王子，他著小喇叭褲的標誌性舞步，帶動整個Disco風潮的熱力四射。由他主演的電影《Saturday Night Fever》可以看到70年代的各式代表性符號和全民皆舞的Disco瘋狂。

正是在這種雙重背景下，《Kung Fu Fighting》誕生了。
